Medical Benefit Savings Account (MBSA)
MBSA vs HSA

A Patented Program to Achieve Medical Funding Goals!

In the future we will wonder
how we ever got by without one.

There are many and sometimes difficult to understand additional, out-of-pocket costs associated with health insurance aside from monthly premiums. Including deductibles,
co-insurance, co-pays, and possibly annual out-of-pocket maximums associated with one's plan.

The MBSA, the ultimate medical benefit savings account is the best medical spending account option available. It lowers all out-of-pocket medical expenses because of its significant, account crediting guarantees and features that will credit a person's account up to
$2 or more for every $1 contributed to the account.

Where's the Growth with the HSA?
Tax Deductions Only Go So Far!
The HSA Annual Interest Crediting Is Inferior
To The Growth On MSBA Contributions
  • The average HSA balance is approximately $1,800
  • For HSA owners over age 55, the average, annual, HSA distribution for those owners who use it to pay for medical claims is approximately $2,300
  • If the average HSA balance is $1,800 yet the average distribution is $2,300, how is the HSA providing sufficient enough growth to help owners to reduce their out-of-pocket, medical expenses?
  • Tax Deductions Only Go So Far: When the primary objective to build an HSA is to pay for medical expenses, maintenance fees can significantly eat into or eliminate any annual interest earned with an HSA. While the MBSA provides an average of $2 in medical benefits for every $1 contributed. Making it far superior to the health savings account for medical expenses.

After 1 Year The Medical Benefit Savings Account
Is Greater Than Participant Contribution

The MBSA is a voluntary, medical spending account owned by the participating employee or family. The MBSA is a non-qualified account funded by the participant with post-tax dollars. The MBSA pre-funds an individual’s (or family’s) out-of-pocket, medical costs into a health matching account that is awarded a monthly, medical benefit crediting on their contribution, which grows each month.

The benefits that build in each MBSA balance are designed to pay for an individual or family out-of-pocket medical costs including co-pays and deductibles in order for participants to save money and complement high deductible, major-medical plans, or catastrophic medical sharing plans. The participant’s MBSA balance increases each and every month as the account crediting continues to build.

This sample illustration demonstrates how an individual or family’s MBSA balance would grow over a three-year period. The rapid growth of the MBSA account balance easily exceeds that of an HSA (Health Savings Account) or any other medical savings account. Over this three-year horizon, the crediting awarded to the participant’s monthly contribution is so strong that $4,900 of contribution can create a $10,000 MBSA balance in this example the person or family to use for their medical costs (assuming no prior medical claims). Once participants reach their target, account balance caps, which in this case is $10,000, they are no longer responsible for making a full, monthly MBSA account balance contribution (and only maintenance fees are required) until they choose to use their Medical Benefits Savings Account once again to pay for a medical expense.

By choosing a MBSA, individuals and families now have the opportunity to fund a superior medical savings account that will permit them to increase their health insurance deductibles and lower their out-of-pocket premiums and medical expenses. In addition, MBSA accounts can also be used to pay for elective procedures such as plastic surgery, lasik and fertility that are not traditionally covered by health insurance as well as long-term care and home health expenses. This health matching account creates additional health care savings for individuals and families by covering a larger portion of their out-of-pocket, medical expenses by more than any other medical savings account available.

Why You Need The MBSA To Maximize Your Health Insurance

Comparing Your Out-Of-Pocket Medical Expenses With And Without The MBSA

Let’s analyze all of the additional, out-of-pocket costs (not including premiums) associated with a sample, high deductible health plan and the potential savings that putting a MBSA in place can provide. After the deductible is reached, the insured is still on the hook for paying 40% of all medical expenses up to the out-of-pocket maximum ($6,500 for individuals).

The chart to the right demonstrates how much potential savings can be secured for an individual opting for the MBSA 7500 plan by taking advantage of the unparalleled MBSA account crediting. For monthly contributions of $113.50 the MBSA 7500 account balance will grow to $7,500 over 35 months and only cost $3,972.

What Medical Services Can Be Paid For
With The Medical Benefit Savings Account?

The Medical Benefit Savings Account (MBSA) is a non-qualified account that pays for first-dollar medical expenses, much like an HSA, and offering far superior incentives. You can use your MBSA medical spending account at the point of service by swiping your HMA Medical Benefits Visa® Prepaid Card to pay for your out-of-pocket medical expenses.

Your MBSA medical spending account can be also used to secure valuable, pharmacy drug discounts through a Rx Program, which will be embedded in your account. This proprietary program not only delivers significant savings to MBSA cardholders, it also offers some of the lowest wholesale drug prices in the industry on prescription drugs, diabetic care services and daily living medical products on top of the savings that the MBSA already provides. The NPHM™ Rx Program has no eligibility restrictions and may be used in pharmacies nationwide.

In order to coordinate your primary health insurance plan benefits with your MBSA pharmacy discounts, be sure to have your pharmacy swipe your primary health insurance card first before processing your WellDyne BIN Sponsor Number located on the back of your  HMA Medical Benefits Visa® Prepaid Card. By doing this, you will be able to choose which pharmacy option is preferable for you between what your primary health plan offers compared to the NPHM™ Rx Program.

If you do not have a prescription drug discount plan, the price you can secure for prescription drugs through your MBSA with the WellDyne BIN Sponsor Number will be significantly better. If you do already have a prescription drug program that comes included with your health insurance or medical cost sharing plan, be sure to compare your pricing options. Any purchases at grocery store pharmacies can be covered on a mail-in reimbursement basis by completing the Reimbursement Claim Form located in the Resources section of your member medical spending account portal and submitting an original, itemized receipt within 30 days of the procedure.

The HMA Medical Benefits Visa® Prepaid Card can be used and swiped at the point of sale to pay for the following medical services up to the HMA owner’s medical benefit savings account balance at the time of their claims.  In addition, MBSA medical spending accounts are also eligible to be used to pay for elective procedures such as plastic surgery, lasik and fertility as well as home health and long-term care expenses among others. These medical expenses will be covered on a mail-in reimbursement basis when you submit an original, itemized receipt within 30 days of the procedure.

These medical services listed below can be paid for by swiping your HMA Medical Benefits Visa® Prepaid Card at the point-of-service and cover a vast majority of qualifying, 213 (d) medical expenses:
